A grasping widow keeps up the pretense that her drowned sister-in-law is still alive to secure her share of a wealthy Irish family's inheritance, faking messages from beyond the grave — until someone at the family estate starts killing the household with an axe.

Francis Ford Coppola made this for Roger Corman on money left over from an Ireland shoot, and though the setup owes a visible debt to Psycho, the séance con and the axe murders that follow are entirely its own nasty invention.
